Voices

Welcome! With “Voices,” I would like to introduce an on-line forum for Columbia University Data Science Institute members to publish their viewpoints and perspectives on data science. These posts will speak to DSI’s mission statement, succinctly captured by our tagline “Data for Good.”

I am also pleased to announce that Chris Wiggins will be the Senior Columnist for “Voices.” Chris is Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics at Columbia University and Chief Data Scientist at the New York Times. It is most appropriate that his first post, and the inaugural post for “Voices,” is on Ethics, Data, and Product.

I hope our voices on Voices attract you to come back and read our posts regularly. Happy reading!

    Ethics, Data, and Product

There's a lot to unpack in the headline "Facebook's suicide alert tool isn't coming to the EU"; for me, it immediately reminded me of two topics we discussed at the beginning and the end of the course "Data: Past, Present, and Future" last spring and will be teaching again next semester.
