DSI's Renee DiResta Investigates Russia’s Operation to Influence U.S. Elections
Data from social media companies paint a grim picture of disinformation
For the past six months, Renee DiResta, staff associate with the Data Science Institute, led an investigation for the Senate Intelligence Committee about Russian interference in U.S. elections. For that investigation, DiResta’s research team at New Knowledge examined data sets provided by Facebook, Twitter, and Google.
In an opinion essay for the New York Times in which she encapsulated the report’s findings, DiResta wrote:
"Russian interference through social media — contrary to the suggestion of many prominent tech executives — is a chronic, widespread and identifiable condition that we must now aggressively manage.”
