Ruth Masterson Creber, PhD, MSc, BSN, FAAN, FAHA, is the Mary Crawford Professor of Nursing and Director of the Center for Community-Engaged Health Informatics and Data Science at Columbia University School of Nursing. Her research leverages health informatics, digital health technologies, and implementation science to address cardiovascular disease in underserved populations across the translational spectrum—from identifying outcome determinants to testing technology-enabled interventions and conducting pragmatic trials embedded in health systems.
Dr. Masterson Creber leads the PCORI-funded MIGHTy-Heart trial evaluating mobile-integrated health services for heart failure transitions and directs multinational cardiac surgery trials examining how coronary artery bypass grafting affects cognition and quality of life across 70+ hospitals globally. Her work systematically applies data science methods and implementation frameworks to co-create scalable, equity-focused interventions with patients, caregivers, and communities.
Recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and American Heart Association, she has been inducted into the Sigma Theta Tau International Research Hall of Fame. She holds dual BA and BSN degrees from the University of Pennsylvania, an MSc in Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and a PhD in Nursing from Penn. Before returning to Columbia, she served as Associate Professor of Population Health Sciences (Division of Health Informatics) and Cardiothoracic Surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine (2018–2022).
