Sandra Soo-Jin Lee, PhD is Professor of Medical Humanities & Ethics and Chief of the Division of Ethics at Columbia University. A medical anthropologist, Dr. Lee leads multi-disciplinary, multi-institutional bioethics research on the ethical and social dimensions of emerging biotechnologies, including genomics, precision medicine and AI, and studies issues related to institutional governance, benefit sharing, justice, and scientific collaboration. Dr. Lee is Co-PI of the Center for the Ethical, Legal, and Social Implications of Genetics and Genomics Research and has served as President of the Association of Bioethics Program Directors. Dr. Lee’s work has been supported by the NIH, NSF, the Greenwall Foundation, the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Wenner-Gren Foundation, the School for Advanced Research, and the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study. Dr. Lee received her doctorate in the joint program at the University of California, Berkeley and San Francisco, and her undergraduate degree and postdoctoral training at Stanford University.
