Ying Wei is a Professor in the Department of Biostatistics at Columbia University. She obtained her Ph.D. degree in statistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2004, and joined Columbia in the same year. Her primary research area is quantile regression and its applications in public health and medical research. She has made several important contributions in developing quantile models for pediatric growth charts, and in developing statistical methods to handle measurement errors and missing data. Recently, she has been actively engaged in developing quantile analysis tools in bioinformatics and genetic research. For her contribution to nonparametric statistics and biostatistics, she received Noether Young Scholar Award from the American Statistical Association in 2011, and was elected as an American Statistical Association Fellow in 2015. She is currently an Associate Editor for the Journal of American Statistical Association (JASA).
