Join an active network of researchers advancing data science and AI research disciplines. Affiliates have opportunities to collaborate with peers, applied data scientists, post-docs, and data science students, and can apply to join one of DSI’s 10 centers and working groups to tackle cross-cutting challenges in data science and AI. Affiliate status is available to full-time faculty whose work intersects with data, computation, or related domains.

Work with Students

Faculty can apply to mentor data science students through the DSI Scholars and Capstone programs, and gain access to talented, stipend-supported students eager to contribute to your projects. DSI manages the matching process to align skilled students to faculty members’ data science and AI needs. We can also connect faculty with students through Campus Connections, a flexible way to recruit data science students year-round.

Work with a Postdoctoral Fellow

The DSI Postdoctoral Fellows program brings early-career researchers to Columbia for two years of independent, interdisciplinary work. Faculty members can collaborate with a DSI postdoctoral fellow to advance research, tap into expertise, and expand the scope of projects. Each postdoctoral fellow receives two faculty mentors—one in data science and one in the fellow’s domain discipline—who help guide their development, while benefiting from the research collaboration and contributions of the fellow.
