When popular platforms and applications update their privacy policies, active users around the world sit up and take notice.
Voz de América reached out to Data Science Institute associate research scholar Susan McGregor to discuss recent changes to WhatsApp’s mobile messaging user policies.
“WhatsApp already recognizes that there are third-party services on the platform. It also indicates in the privacy policy that messages can be shared beyond the platform and it is possible that people record their calls.”
“What Facebook is trying to do is make it easier for businesses that use WhatsApp to share messages that come into the business account within their organization. It’s easier for a business that has customer service representatives to route your message from WhatsApp.”
“I think this is probably a time for people to analyze their use of WhatsApp and wonder what concerns them in terms of privacy and if this platform is the one they want or if they want a new alternative.”
