Dr. Chunhua Weng is Professor of Biomedical Informatics and co-Director for the Biomedical Informatics Resource of the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research (CTSA) at Columbia University. She is an elected Fellow of American College of Medical Informatics and an elected Fellow of International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (elected in August 2020). She had formal training in both computer science and biomedical and health informatics and has been conducting clinical research informatics and electronic health records research for 20 and 13 years, respectively. Her career goal is to advance the field of clinical and translational research on several fronts, including quality-aware computational reuse of electronic health records (EHR) data and EHR-based deep phenotyping towards the achievement of a learning health system. Her contributions to the literature cover the following areas: text knowledge engineering, EHR-based cohort identification and phenotyping, and intelligence augmentation. Dr. Weng is also an Associate Editor for Journal of Biomedical Informatics, a lead member on the national CTSA informatics Executive Committee, and the current co-chair for the eMERGE phenotyping working group.
