Dr. Guanlan Hu is a Data and Cancer Collaboratory Postdoctoral Research Scientist in the Data Science Institute. Under the guidance of DSI faculty mentors Professor Lena Mamykina and Professor Dympna Gallagher, and Tumor Board Clinician mentors, Dr. Dawn Hershman and Dr. Meghna Trivedi, Dr. Hu’s research will be focused on advancing and providing data science expertise, data-driven evidence, and decision-making modeling for cancer patient care and treatment.

Dr. Hu’s research interests include artificial intelligence (AI) in nutrition, dietary behaviors and food policy, metabolic diseases and cancer. Her work applies machine learning, natural language processing (NLP), and multi-omics to address healthcare challenges. Her commitment to her vision also extends to the exploration of large datasets in public health and personal health monitoring.

Before joining Columbia University in 2024, Dr. Hu was a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto. She received her Ph.D. in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Toronto, where she was trained in the Transitional Medicine Program at The Hospital for Sick Children.
