Renzhe Yu is an Assistant Professor of Learning Analytics / Educational Data Mining at Teachers College, Columbia University and teaches the MS in Learning Analytics program. He is interested in leveraging data science to understand and support educational and social equity, and improving the fairness and ethics of these analytical processes.

In collaboration with low-resourced institutions across the country, Yu’s current research builds on large-scale behavioral trace data to 1) unveil systematic inequalities in young adults’ day-to-day educational experience, and 2) develop predictive algorithms to help stakeholders pinpoint and mitigate potential inequities in young adults’ achievement and wellbeing.

Yu’s formal training spans computer science, economics, public policy and education. He received his doctorate from UC Irvine and master’s and undergraduate degrees from Peking University.
