Data Science Institute Cybersecurity Think Tank

The DSI Cybersecurity Think Tank focuses on hard problems and promising approaches to cybersecurity. The Think Tank meets bi-weekly to discuss important cybersecurity topics, with the possibility of growing into multiple focused working groups. The group includes over 50 senior cybersecurity professionals from the business sector, non-profit, startup, government, and academia. 

The Data Science Institute is seeking an administrative assistant at the graduate level to handle day-to-day duties for the Think Tank. This is a paid position that will report to Think Tank committee members Salvatore J. Stolfo (Professor of Computer Science, Columbia Engineering) and Tsvi Gal (Head of Enterprise Technology Services, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center). Other duties may be assigned by Think Tank contributors and collaborators. 

Estimated Hours Per Week: 5-10

Administrative duties:

  • Handle meeting attendance confirmations in advance of each meeting; communicate with invited guests to confirm their availability.
  • Confirm and draft the agenda for each meeting with the committee (such as: confirming talks or presentations given by participants, coordinating to set topics and briefs for each meeting).
  • Maintain up to date records of meeting attendance via spreadsheets and documents.
  • Routinely distribute communications to the group via shared email address. Work to develop and maintain an email list of group members (Grouper, Listserv or other).
  • Respond to inquiries via the program email address or forward to the appropriate party.

Technical duties:

  • Handle scheduling, calendar invitations, and online meeting creation via Think Tank Zoom account. Work to shift to a hybrid meeting format if/when allowed by University policies. 
  • Handle exporting and filing of participant, poll, and chat records from Zoom. 
  • Organize meeting notes in Google Drive, working with a designated PhD scribe.

Other duties:

  • Support administrative tasks related to Think Tank growth and long term goals. 
  • Work with the appropriate DSI staff member to handle the creation of new collateral for the Think Tank, such as communications copy, design, or finance/budgeting. 

Interest or experience with cybersecurity is a bonus, but not required.
