Faculty Positions

Columbia University is pleased to invite applications for faculty positions with the Data Science Institute. Applications at the assistant professor or associate professor without tenure, and in exceptional cases, at the associate professor and full professor levels with tenure, will be considered.

Columbia University requires that Institute faculty be appointed within an academic department, or across several departments in the case of interdisciplinary hires.

      1. Departmental Appointment: Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering

        We are interested in candidates conducting experimental research that could also intersect with nanoscience research.

      1. Departmental Appointment: Biomedical Informatics, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, or Statistics

        We are seeking candidates who can work alongside domain specialists to apply their work. For example, candidates who are interested in applying their domain expertise to applications including, but not limited to, transportation networks, health analytics, scientific computation, and social science would all be within scope.

      1. Departmental Appointment: Computer Science

      1. Departmental Appointment: Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering

Candidates must have a Ph.D. or its professional equivalent, by the starting date of the appointment. Applicants for a position at the Assistant Professor and Associate Professor without tenure must demonstrate the potential to do pioneering research and to teach effectively. Applicants for a position at the tenured level (Associate or Full Professor) must have a demonstrated record of outstanding research accomplishments, excellent teaching credentials and established leadership in the field.

Successful candidates are expected to contribute to the advancement of their field, the Data Science Institute and the department or departments in which they are appointed by developing an original and leading externally funded research program, and contributing to the undergraduate and graduate educational missions of the Institute and department(s). Columbia University and the Data Science Institute fosters multidisciplinary research and encourages collaborations across academic departments and units at Columbia University, and candidates whose research interests span multiple departments and/or Schools at Columbia University are encouraged to apply. Qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community are also strongly encouraged to apply.
